This season, the Stevenson Boys’ Tennis Team made significant progress, overcoming various challenges and obstacles. While they may not have achieved as many wins as they had hoped, the team demonstrated strong effort and cohesion with both teammates and coaches.
The team faced struggles when the season first started as they had a hard time gathering players to play for the team. At the time the season started, only a few went to try outs. However, head coach Kristen Khamis said more people joined later during the season.
“We started as a very small team at the start,” Khamis said. “And more people joined the team when the season already started, so getting players that late really hurt us.”
Another issue the team faced this season was the experience gap between other players and other teams. Some games had uneven matchups with players that have multiple years of experience while there are others who have never picked up a racket in their life.
However, this has not stopped the team from achieving success. Player Ansh Malholta ‘25 always had tricks up his sleeve to help the team prepare for even some of the most experienced schools.
“We would always have a group huddle and discuss strategies,” Malholta said. “This helped boost confidence and help prepare our teammates mentally for difficult games.”
Although it is the end of the road for the boy’s tennis team this season, their journey does not end here. Although some of the players will be graduating this year, Khamis said she still has plans for improving the team not just for newcomers, but players who have already been on the team before.
“I believe that tennis is getting more popular than before,” Khamis said. “With this, the team will grow in size, and more boys will join the team in addition to the huge girl’s tennis team.”
