Former president Donald Trump is returning to office on January 20th this year after his election victory over Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Trump defeated Harris by 86 electoral votes and 2 million votes in the popular election. Policies he mentioned before the election were lowering grocery prices, ending the wars in Ukraine and Israel and tariffing countries like China, Mexico. More recently, he has mentioned the possibility of unifying Canada and Mexico with the United States and using military and economic force to take control over the Panama Canal and Greenland.
Jeffery Lopo, a US history teacher said he’s worried about the presidency because he’s threatening to pull out of NATO which will increase tensions with other nations.
“There’s absurd stuff like taking over Greenland and Canada, I wonder how much of that is bluster for his fan base,” Lopo said. “He’s managed to aggravate many of our European allies over trivial things. I mean people wanted an oligarchy, and that’s what they got.”
Robert Adkins shows a positive attitude towards Trump’s second term and looks forward to his cabinet picks and presence on the world stage.
“I think Trump taking office is good for the nation. I think we will return to a 2017/2018 type economy. I think people like Robert Kennedy Jr. are improvements in the cabinet. I think all these countries that are acting up like Russia and Iranian backed terrorist groups are going to back down now that there is a leader that is there mentally.”
Jacob Lewandowski is more averse to Trump’s return to office and his policies.
“First of all, I think he doesn’t really have a whole lot of real policies. He’s probably policy-less, but I think the things he has proposed have been outlandish. I’m not in support of annexing Canada, and Canada doesn’t want to be annexed, same as Greenland. I think really, it’s his lack of policy that is my big problem.”
