For three years, Stevenson senior, Hannah Tamou ’25 had her eyes set on the school’s single-game scoring record.
On a night to remember, she finally reached that milestone, tying T. Robertson’s 2008 record with 33 points in the Titans’ commanding 70-25 win over New Haven High School.
“It feels so great to accomplish this,” Tamou said. “Since freshman year, I’ve been determined to get my name on that record board. To finally achieve it is such a relief and an incredible moment for me.”
As the game progressed and her shots kept falling, her coaches and teammates kept her aware of how close she was. With just over a minute left, she needed two points to tie and three to break the record.
“Coach called a timeout and set up a play to give me a chance to score,” Tamou said. “I took a three-pointer but missed. My teammates grabbed the rebound and kicked it back out to me. I took a floater instead, and that’s what tied the record.”
Despite wanting to claim the record outright, Tamou said she was proud of what she accomplished and grateful for her teammates’ support. Along with her scoring, she also recorded 14 steals.
“Their reactions after I hit 33 were amazing,” she said. “They were cheering for me the whole time, and I can’t thank them and my coaches enough.”
With her name now etched in Stevenson’s record books, Tamou’s legacy as one of the Titans’ top scorers is cemented, ensuring her impact on the program will be remembered for years to come.
With graduation approaching, Tamou is preparing for the next chapter, continuing her basketball career at Macomb Community College.
“My goal is to keep pushing myself and improve my game,” Tamou said. “I hope to play at a higher level after a couple of years and see how far basketball can take me.”
