After being in school for so many years, elementary school, middle school, even high school, people are sick of school. High schoolers are the sickest because they know it’s the end before they go out into the world and live life as adults. It’s not as easy as they think though.
There is a “sickness” that all high school students get before they graduate, and it’s called senioritis. Senioritis is when students have a lack of motivation and energy they experience towards the end of high school or any other future education they’re receiving.
Seniors get tired very easily since their three years of high school like MADE student, David Keel ’25 who said he thinks that students get tired of repetitive things like classes or days in the week and it makes them sick of school.
“Seniors feel that they’re going through the motions of each day,” Keel said. “Since it’s their last year before they attend college, they feel as though it can get boring.”
With seniors feeling like they’re going through the motions of each day, according to counselor Delaney Sullivan, there should be more connections and resources available to help seniors tp get through the day. School should be a place of inspiration, and where students want to learn; not where they instantly want to go home.
“I think that’s I think at a big school like this, it can be hard like, I definitely do think, like you connect more and smaller groups and like, smaller classes. um but I think there’s a lot to do with, like school spirit,” Sullivan said. “Like, when teachers recognize you and principles recognize you and, um there’s like a class that you look forward to every time. So, like, I think sometimes it’s, you know, the school is having giving students the resources to take classes that interest them.”
Having recognition from principals and teachers will give you more motivation to continue doing positive things in school. Needing more student connections, Valerie Goetsh ’25 said she’d like to see more from the school at the end of the year to motivate students.
“I think that if we received more days off or we got to end up, like, if we did, like, more field trips or like, we just did more,” Goetsh said.
