Theater Troupe 33 is ready to make waves this spring with its production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Audiences will be swept away as Ariel, the curious young mermaid, takes center stage in a show filled with some Stevenson underwater magic.
Director Cheryl Jackson said she’s excited about this musical because the Disney classic will bring nostalgic memories to adults, and magical moments to children.
“Adults remember the movie as a child,” Jackson said. “They’ve probably shown their kids the movie as well. It’s got a lot of interesting lessons about independence, and there’s a love story, and there’s comedy, there’s funny chefs running around.”
Students who are part of the cast and are going to be featured in this production like Jalin Toyee ’25 who is playing Sebastion said she is optimistic for the musical and is excited to see everyone’s efforts put into action.
“We encourage families to watch this year’s musical because we chose a great kid’s play,” Toyee said. “Everyone is fond of The Little Mermaid.”
Toyee also added that the musical is Jackson’s last ripple as she plans to retire at the end of the school year.
“We’re going to have a big send away to offer her,” Toyee said.
Another senior cast member, Dylan Martinez ‘25 who is playing King Triton emphasized how much the play means to not only the students participating, but the school as well.
“Families should come to see the Little Mermaid because it is a fun story that’s going to include great dancing and singing,” Martinez said. “So much effort is being made into the play, not only on the students’ part but also on the parent’s part, as well as the teachers who are volunteering after school.”
