“Lilo and Stitch” is a popular Disney movie made in 2003 centered around a little girl named Lilo who adopts an alien experiment on the run named Stitch. This popular cartoon has recently released a live action version which would follow the events of the original movie with its own unique spin.
This movie, despite the few problems it has, is a great adaptation of the original, as well as a fun movie to watch with the entire family.
One of this movie’s greatest strengths is its ability to stay true to the movie without seeming like an imitation of the original. This live action adaptation, while staying true to the original movie and the heart of what it had, makes itself stand out by adding its own scenes and plot progressions. They were able to change the events of the movie slightly but still capture its essence in a way that is respectful to the original.
Another positive aspect of this movie is its wonderfully accurate depiction of the characters. Many characters are part of an extraterrestrial species with many unique variants that make each character stand out from the crowd. The SFX artists, using CGI, were able to create very accurate three-dimensional versions of these originally two-dimensional characters.
The actors in the movie also end up looking a lot like the original cartoon variants. Overall, the filmmakers were able to do an amazing job replicating the unique, fictional cast of this movie in the real world.
There are a lot of things this movie does well, it is also important to address some of its flaws. While there is not a lot this movie does objectively wrong, there are still a few things that make it less perfect than it could be. Starting with the fact that this movie does add and take away a few characters that end up changing some important parts of the movie. While it does not change the story as a whole, it does alter some larger parts of the original movie to an extent where it is significant to mention.
Another thing that changes is that many scenes where Pleakley and Jumba, two of the main aliens in this movie, were human for a large part of the duration. While it is understandable that they couldn’t keep them as CGI for the entirety of the movie because of their complexity, it is also easy to understand that people would be upset over this change.
The live action adaptation of “Lilo and Stitch,” while in some ways flawed, is a great movie. It was able to portray the original movie in a way that stuck true to it, but also did not use it as a crutch. Overall, the movie is very enjoyable for both those who have and have not seen the original movie. So, if you have some free time, head to the theater and watch the live action adaptation of “Lilo and Stitch.”
