The SHS Performing arts department has a new member. Meet Mr. Jeremy Sloat, the new choir, stage craft, and theater arts teacher and director of Titan Theater Troupe 33. A veteran teacher of fourteen years, Sloat is adjusting well to his new schedule.
“Stevenson has been pretty good so far. It’s a huge school and I am back and forth between classes, so I almost feel like a student again,” Sloat said. “The 6-minute passing time which seems like a lot if you are staying put seems a lot shorter.”
Sloat is a gifted performer who has been a singer his whole life.
“I have always loved singing. When I was a kid I would sing along with Whitney Houston at home – my best friend’s mom told me that I used to be awful,” Sloat said. “But I stuck with it. I found in high school and college that the performing arts was a safe and accepting place and I try to make sure that my programs are still that way.”
Sloat has an impressive resume both on and off stage.
“I have gotten to perform some awesome stuff,” Sloat said “I have sang on stage with Demi Lovato and Patti LuPone, I have been conducted by John Rutter. I have also gotten to create some awesome plays as an actor and director.”
Sloat is wise leader with seemingly infinite advice to give. His favorite is as follows.
“You only get one high school experience and the good thing is that as you move forward from here you don’t have to see many of the people ever again if you don’t want to… So find what makes you happy and gives you your motivation to get up and come to school every day and get involved with it”
