At Stevenson, the bowling team is often underrepresented and overlooked. However, This doesn’t mean that they don’t have their own specialties and goals.
Bowling, like other sports, takes time to practice. Many use bowling as a gateway to find new people.
When asked on bowling, Madden Preston ‘27 said how much he enjoys bowling.
“There’s a lot of things I enjoy about it,” Preston said. “It’s just like the main part is being able to meet new people.”
Bowling being a gateway to meet new people, it’s also a way to connect with friends that you’ve known in the past, which is what Kelsey Lewandowski ‘26 likes about the sport.
“It’s fun hanging out with my friends,” Lewandoski said. “To just eat the bowling alley food here and have fun bowling.”
With bowling, the coach has the most input when it comes to the team. When asked about how it’s like to coach bowling, Coach Kimberly Maddy had this to say.
“I love it, this is my thirteenth year.” Maddy said. “The look on the kids faces when they bowl their high score that’s something you can’t forget.”
Bowling is something special to the kids Maddy said she coaches, and she said she has high hopes for the bowling team.
“Oh yeah, with practice and time, this bowling team will be good,” Maddy said.
Bowling can also present a variety of new opportunities, just like other sports.
Like how schools offer scholarships for sports, Colleges offer bowling scholarships to students. Madden Preston is one of these students seeking such a scholarship.
“I’m hoping I can get a scholarship for bowling to Wichita State University,” Preston said. “I want to continue doing bowling like so many others.”
Bowling scholarships can provide an excellent path to achieving a good education while doing what you love, which is important to all sports.
Bowling is a pathway for students to do what they love to get their way into making their education paid off, being a great alternative to other contact sports that can risk injuries that can impact you for life.
Bowling can also bring people together from other schools. When asked how groups of people can be brought together via bowling, Preston had this to say.
“Some of the kids from schools like Junior Highs like Jeannete, Davis, and other schools outside of those will sometimes merge with other high schools.” Preston said.
