Last season, the Detroit Pistons won only 14 games in total. This season, they had 14 games won by Christmas, and it is only looking up for the team.
This has been a historic season for the team, asthey have managed to overcome many challenges that have been plaguing them for over a decade. They recently just won eight straight games, not done by the team since the 2014-2015 season. As of Feb. 27, The Pistons have won 33 games, which is more than their past two seasons combined. On top of all that, the Pistons look to make the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
At the center of the team’s success is all-star Cade Cunningham. The first overall pick of 2021 has been gradually growing into a borderline top ten player over the years. Right now, Cade is third in assists. If I were the Pistons, I would try to build a solid roster around him and utilize his incredible playmaking and scoring.
Cade isn’t the only player balling out recently. Malik Beasly is second in three-pointers made this season and center Jalen Duren is a rebounding monster. I’m also very big on rookie Ron Holland II. He has so much potential with the Pistons, and I think he can definitely turn into a valuable player for the team, with his flashes of good defense. Another future star currently on the Pistons is Ausar Thompson, who shows bright signs of being a great two-way player.
If the season were to end today, the Pistons would qualify for the playoffs and would earn the sixth seed. This puts them against the New York Knicks, who the Pistons have a 2-1 record against in the regular season. That one loss came at the very start of the season, and they have beat them both times they played them after. I think we can beat them in a seven-game series for sure, and I can’t wait for the playoffs to start.
