Since February 17, Muslim students at Stevenson have been fasting for Ramadan, which will end on Eid al-Fitr which is on March 19. However, how is Ramadan going for these students? For students like Mohamed Elsayed ‘27 Ramadan has impacted only when it first started when it comes to learning and focusing on class during the day. Obviously, Ramadan will impact fellow students who practice it.
“Sometimes I get tired, after fasting”
Elsayed also says it mainly takes effects a couple of days after it starts, not immediately
“After fasting for a certain number of days, you get kind of tired from not eating and not being able to during the day,” said Elsayed.
Jumana Abdulsalam ‘26 rides the same boat where it’s harder to focus in class and stay concentrated and causes a change in her mood.
“It’s definitely a bit more difficult to concentrate in class,” Abdulsalam said. “Just because I can really feel myself getting exhausted early on and more irritable.”
With that said, not all students feel the same exhaustion or tiredness as openly as other students. One example is Yasir Sheikh Qader ‘26 who shares his experiences.
“I’ve been doing it since I was 10, I think that helps with the feeling and helps with experience during fasting,” Sheikh Qader said.
