Lillian Yousif ’27 has faced her share of stressful days.
A high-achieving student and a member of the marching band, she often balances a full schedule with even fuller expectations.
Yousif joined marching band as a sophomore, hoping to take her skills to the next level after starting band in seventh grade. The decision quickly became about more than music.
Through long practices and performances, she built strong friendships with fellow band members. Connections that keep her going, even on the hardest days.
Despite the pressure, Yousif continues to show up.
High school was a transition she expected to be challenging, but one she believed would pay off in the long run. Still, there are moments when the weight of academics and extracurriculars feels overwhelming.
Some days, she considers quitting. Other days, she questions whether the workload is worth it.
On the outside, Yousif is known for her constant smile and easy laughter. She brings energy into every room, often joking with friends and embracing the moment.
But behind that outward confidence, she faces the daily challenge of managing her time and responsibilities.
After school, homework typically takes up most of her day. During marching band season, practices add hours to an already packed schedule.
Even with assignments waiting, she heads to practice, pushing through long rehearsals and demanding routines.
For Yousif, the effort comes down to one thing: the people.
Spending time with friends and being part of a close-knit group makes the long hours worthwhile.
That sense of belonging is what keeps her committed.
Yousif says the late nights, academic pressure and demanding schedule are all part of a bigger goal, making herself and her family proud.
She has always had big dreams.
And while the stress is real, Yousif believes it is worth it. For her friends, her family and herself.
