On Oct. 3, Taylor Swift released a new album. Being someone who doesn’t listen to her music and hasn’t heard a song from her since Bad Blood was a popular song, I decided to give it a listen. Here is my non-swiftie review of her new album; “The Life of a Show Girl.”
Starting off my thoughts on the first listen of the album. It actually surprised me with the first song; it started off flowing well and had a very upbeat charm to it. As I got deeper into her album, I soon started to feel that every song had a very similar beat and flow to them. While that consistency can be good for fans who enjoy her signature style, it made it harder for me to distinguish one song from another. Some tracks blended, leaving me wishing for a bit more variation or experimentation.
My favorite song on the album has to be “The Fate of Ophelia,” I like the chorus and beat it has gone on for it. However, I am not a very big fan of constant rhyming with basically each line. I feel like it’s sort of corny in a way, but overall, it was the song I enjoyed listening to the most and even had me humming along at some points.
My least favorite song has to be “Wood.” It starts very weirdly and overall, just has a weird story behind the song. The lyrics again are rhyming constantly, which is very clichéd. It felt like it was trying too hard to sound poetic without saying much, and in the end, I just wanted the song to be over.
Final thoughts, I can see how some listeners will like this album and enjoy it, but I am not an avid Taylor Swift Listener, I did not enjoy it very much.
