Halloween is many people’s favorite holidays. There’s free candy, great movies, and costumes! What’s not to love? In recent times, people have gotten less creative with their costume choices and executions. Rather than going all out for this rare opportunity to leave the house in full costume without judgment, people are opting to abandon true costumes for simple everyday clothes.
Concepts themselves are also suffering. Social media is where most people turn for inspiration, but this year, inspiration seekers are out of luck as their feeds are flooded by bland ideas. They have gone from werewolves, vampires, and beloved characters to items like pumpkins and tubes of lip gloss. Many of the popular costume ideas this year include basic solid-colored t-shirts and cheap tutus or leggings with no other defining accessories to make the costume whole.
It is not uncommon for our age group to start to become disinterested in Halloween and not wanting to dress up as much as we did when we were younger, but this is no excuse. Either make the choice not to dress up or go as a simple character that wears everyday clothing. Worst comes to worst, wear everyday clothing with some form of fun makeup, hair, or accessory to tie together something.
The entire point of dressing up is to dress up. You can be cute and scary and everything in between but boring simply isn’t the way to go for Halloween.
