Recently, Bowl and Wrap shawarma on 15 mile and Dequindre went viral, with one video in particular receiving 412,800 likes. The question: how does it compare to other popular shawarma, like the one from Amo Sami’s, or Bucharest Grill?
The Bowl and Wrap shawarma is priced at $6.49, or $9.99 for the lunch special (which includes fries and a drink). This is relatively cheap in comparison to others in the area, as Amo Sami’s is priced at $13.99, Bucharest at $9.95. Bowl and Wrap crushes the competition in pricing and doesn’t pay for it in taste.
The chicken shawarma consists of grilled chicken, pickles, garlic sauce, and tomatoes (though I ordered it without them). The pita is soaked in oil, and then once the shawarma is complete, they press it to give it a nice crunch.
I found this to be one of the best Shawarma I’ve had. The chicken is flavorful and juicy, and the pickles are sliced, instead of diced or as a spear like most shawarma. The garlic spread is just a garlic spread, average. The crispiness of the pita ties together all the ingredients nicely, allowing it to have the edge over the earlier mentioned Amo Sami’s and Bucharest Grill.
The fries were certainly a highlight as well. They were crispy, battered fries that came out very hot, and very seasoned. I think the fries were essential to the meal, I would 100% get them with the shawarma.
The only downside I experienced was the wait time. The business wasn’t very busy, yet I still waited around 15 minutes for my shawarma. They made everything fresh, which I believe to be the reason behind the wait time.
Overall, Bowl and Wrap is budget friendly whilst not compromising taste, texture, or flavor. I would recommend anyone who likes shawarma to make the visit.
