Decorative key chains are all the rage right now. From labubus to sonny angels, they are everywhere in the halls, hanging from lanyards, purses and backpacks with their fun colors and patterns, adorning and bedazzling otherwise drab bags and ID holders with their cute and unique designs.
Though they are very cute, keychains may be more trouble than they are worth in the school setting. Taking care of key chains to keep them cute can be a major distraction to students. The amount of broken and dirty key chains found on the floor and hanging on for dear life to backpacks and lanyards is staggering. Not to mention the amount lost daily by getting caught on things to fall off and be separated from their school bag home forever.
Key chains are a distraction in the classroom. They can be loud, especially when hung from lanyards which are bound to constantly move with you, and this can get annoying fast to teachers and students alike. Many of these key chains also just cost too much to be stolen or lost at school.
A lot of the trending ones like Smiskis and Sonny Angels can cost as much as $20 for just one. Students have enough expensive property to look after daily like their school laptop and phones without having to keep up with a $20 key chain.
Despite being fun and cute, key chains are not a school essential. If you dislike your backpack or lanyard without them, you can always buy a different one with a fun pattern or design for a similar price without the multitude of annoyances and inconveniences that come with key chains.
They have become more of a distraction than an expression of self at school and should be kept to a minimum unless you are equipped to handle looking out for your beloved accessories every day.
